Seattle Parks and Recreation. Gardener and Senior Gardener positions. $29.03-$35.05 Hourly. Full Time. Various Seattle locations.

Job Responsibilities: Journeyman level and Senior Gardener positions. Work requires knowledge of standard methods, materials, procedures, tools, and equipment associated with landscape construction and maintenance, planting and irrigation. Work includes spraying, pruning, or planting; performing aspects of plant propagation and care including soil preparation and mixing, pruning, fertilizing, spraying, potting of plants, preparation of trees and shrubs for transplanting, and propagation by seeds, cuttings, layering, grafting, or divisions. Turf maintenance and irrigation repair and maintenance. Operates motor vehicles to and from work locations. Sr. Gardener trains, leads and directs work activities of one and/or many subordinate crews, orders materials, creates schedules, performs IPM and pesticide schedules, prepares required reports, assists in preparation and justification of an annual budget. Maintains records of all expenditures. Helps develop, makes recommendations, or implements the type of landscape maintenance, rebuilding, or construction required at a given location. Directs the implementation of landscape designs from blueprints and plans. Personal contacts with the public and community groups.

Minimum Qualifications: Gardener– Minimum 2 years experience in landscape construction/maintenance, or in the propagation and maintenance of flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees at a conservatory, greenhouse, or nursery. Sr Gardener – 3 years experience in landscape construction and maintenance or propagation and maintenance of flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees. A combination of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.

Additional Requirements: Required to lift heavy objects weighing in 50 pounds or less. Requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances. Required to work outdoors in all types of weather. Required to work in areas of high vehicular or pedestrian traffic. Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time License, Certification and Other Requirements Washington Public Pesticide operator’s license required after appointment. Current Washington State driver’s license. Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite.
